The Medical Science Liaison Society (MSL Society), the only 501(c)(3) non-profit organization exclusively dedicated to advancing the medical science liaison (MSL) profession, has released its 2018 MSL Salary and Compensation Survey. The MSL Society conducted the first-ever global MSL salary survey in 2014. The 2018 edition surveyed a total of 1,665 MSL professionals from 60 countries, making it the largest, most comprehensive and most authoritative resource available on MSL salary and compensation levels globally.
The annual MSL Salary and Compensation Survey is designed to gain insights into current global MSL salary and compensation levels across the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device industries, and other company types that employ MSLs. Some key findings of the 2018 report include:
The average salary for MSLs in the U.S.: $160,002
The average starting salary for new MSLs in the U.S.: $137,959
The average salary for MSL manager/directors in the U.S.: $208,538
The full results of the 2018 Salary Survey feature a total of 899 pages and is available in 15 versions including the global results and 14 individual countries reports: Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States, respectively.
Salary data throughout all versions are reported in US Dollars for each role (MSL, Manager, Executive Management). To help respondents understand their country’s compensation relative to other countries, the survey provided an external link to convert currency to US Dollars. As in previous years, the MSL Society commissioned an external research firm to calculate all data to ensure accuracy.
