After about 150 Provincial Council meetings, the Gelderland representatives on January 23, 2019, bid farewell to their beloved chairman and commissioner of the King in Gelderland, Clemens Cornielje. Cornielje ends on 1 February 2019, after 13.5 years.
The Assembly of States is special because the agenda is entirely dedicated to parting with various speakers, including the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, Kajsa Ollongren.
Chairman and national government
On August 31, 2005, Clemens Cornielje was installed on the recommendation of the Provincial Council. As chairman of the Provincial States and Provincial Executive he was ‘the face’ of the province of Gelderland. In addition, he was also the representative of the government in the province, the national government. One of the tasks that goes with it is to monitor the way municipalities do their work. Before that, he regularly arranged municipal visits.
Additional functions
Clemens Cornielje also fulfilled additional duties arising from the office of the King’s Commissioner in Gelderland. He was chairman of the Legal Valley Advisory Board and a member of the Advisory Council of the Netherlands War Graves Foundation. He was also doyen, the longest-serving and thus the chairman of the Circle of Commissioners.
History
From 1814, Gelderland had 16 commissioners from the King (in). Until 1848 the King himself appointed the new commissioner. Then the government did that. From the 80s of the last century Provincial States may participate in the profile sketch.
